Recipe: Slow Cooker Italian Beef Hoagies

This recipe is hugely popular around here as an easy way to feed a crowd, especially during the holidays when there is just so much going on. My Italian Beef Hoagies are super simple, and it can be left simmering in the crockpot all day while you do your holiday shopping, decorating, gift wrapping, football watching, spend time with family-ing, etc. Plus, it’s easy to customize the taste for each diner — if they like it spicy, add more peppers, if the kids like them non-spicy, add peppers to sandwiches individually at the end. Horseradish sauce gives the sandwiches a nice kick too! Want a French Dip? Spoon some of the juice into a dipping bowl and you have the perfect au jus. How do you like your hoagie?


Italian Beef Hoagies

  • 2 lbs boneless sirloin tip roast
  • 1 package Italian salad dressing mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 oz jar mild pepper rings, don’t drain
  • 8 hoagie rolls

Combine Italian dressing mix and water, then pour over roast in a crockpot. Cover and cook 8 hours on low. Shred meat with a fork and add pepper rings*, then cook an additional 20-30 minutes on low. Serve on hoagie rolls. For French Dip, ladle some of the pan broth into a dipping bowl.

Serves about 8.

*If you don’t want a kick to your beef, save the pepper rings so the meat doesn’t get spicy. Add pepper rings to the sandwiches to taste when serving.
